Going Back to Work

It’s Friday and my week at home with the baby is almost over. On Monday I go back to work, and I’m not looking forward to it.

It was hard for me to leave the little one in the NICU everyday, but I think it will be even harder to leave her at home. Her mom will be here to take care of her it’s just more that I don’t want to leave her. Now that she is home and I can see her, and pick her up whenever I want it’s really hard to walk away from her. After having to check with the NICU to make sure it was OK to visit, which it always was, and having to wait until feeding time to hold her I just don’t want to have to wait all day to see her again.

But alas, I have to go back to work. I took a week off when she was born, and another week when she came home. I just hope I have been able to help out enough to establish a little bit of a routine to make feedings and resting easier on my wife.

Has anyone else out there had similar feelings? How did those first days back at work go for you? Also be sure to check out the other Fatherhood Friday posts through Dad Blogs.

  1. The first week, the first month will be tough when your at work. You might want to check in every five minutes. With the natural first time parent worry which I still have but, not as severe as when my daughter was an infant. But, with that worry you'll be grinning from ear to ear with a few added bags under the eyes. The best of luck on the beginning stages of your journey through fatherhood.

  2. I remember it well. Like you, I split my paternity leave over two separate weeks. It didn't feel enough but perhaps it never would! I can only tell you that coming home every evening to a smiling daughter goes a long way to ease the pain of being apart through the day.

  3. I think i went back to work for a few weeks while my wife was on leave but as she got more and more overwhelmed i took more time off, stepped down, went PT and eventually left the company. Now i'm a two year SAHD with no stress. I did have to agree to change some spending habits but couldn't be happier.

Now with my son about to start pre school i'm going to attempt to work a few hours a week at a local Casino as a Valet.

I'll let you know how the interview goes,it's been about 9 years since i've been on one LOL!!

  4. Thanks for the comments! I'll be sure to let you know how things go next week. My wife and I discussed me being a SAHD, but she is going to be working from home for a while and there was really no need for me to stay.

Good luck on the job interview STLDADDY_SAHDAD. Let me know how it goes.

  5. To be honest I don't remember much of what it was like, it was such a blur, so really try to soak it all in! Enjoy taking thousands of pictures of you and your new family and then showing the pictures off at work!

  8. Wow, so amazing and touching! I read your story and have to say, I am so happy for your family!

My little one just turned 4, and I still have "issues" when I have to leave her with a sitter, or even my other half LOL

Sorry to say, and not to compare our lives, but that feeling never goes away...at least not in 4 years for me :-)

Kudos and thanks for coming by our blog.
